you know, I wasn't to sure what you meant about you stopping to chase realism as I always saw your work as exaggerated and far from realism, so I took the time to look at your work once more, and I see the difference clear as day! 
studies from life is a great way to improve but when it comes to your work, be free and accept mistakes. I understand now in regards to your own work what you meant.
