BLOW MY MIND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Havent seen an anime this good in a long long time. I remember i saw the first one on a trailer, and they looked 3d, and i said man, another bad mecha anime with tons of moe. That was my first thought , but, noticed they add it on netflix as a special netflix thing.I said woww, how fast this anime go to netflix, that just aired almost a months. So ediced to give it a try.
And i was shocked. Havent seen anything this good since Macross or Evangelion. All the animation its in 3d, but i was not worried because of that, have the vibe like my favorite anime Kakurenbo. Then when i saw Sidonia from far way, the design blow my mind, how somethign so simple was cool looking. I mean this days ships are like tons of polygons, but this almost squared shaped ship blew my mind. Same as the art inside in it.
This anime its like if they combined Lain, Macross, Shingeki and Blame, if someone told me the designs were from Yoshitoshi Abe i will believe it. Music its epic, i just love the space combat, the angles are perfect. But whats its more important its the story.
THE BEST STORY I HAD SEEN IN YEARS in mechas. When i saw the scifi concepts i was blown away, the dialogues of characters are clever, this anime always end up leaving you in a cliffhanger, that you cant wait to see the next chapter.
How to i know this? Becaus ei saw the entire season(12 apisodes) in an afternoon. And its awesome that its going to have a second season. Im going to comicon this cmonth in -san diego, so im going to look for books of this series.
I normally hate the hell out of mixed media animation, and full CG is usually worse. It usually makes the directors and storyboarders lazy as shit, selecting the same shots and types of shots over and over again. But they did do a really really good job in this anime. The camera was usually very dynamic and framing an actually interesting shot. That and their choice of pallette and filters also really help quite a bit.
It was really nice to see a good old fashioned space mecha anime again! Well. A good one...
Just started watching it AND reading the manga at the same time. I loves me some Tsutomu Nihei, he gets better with every book, but I think this is one of those cases where the anime is an improvement.
I actually spotted this on Netflix just last night, watched the trailer, and wasn't impressed (but to be fair I was also dead tired at the moment and not really watching... my eyes were looking, my brain wasn't comprehending).
Anyway, thanks to your journal entry I'm gonna go ahead and give this series a try. I hope it's as good as you say!!
OMFG you're going to SDCC!? D: ...that makes me very very sad because I wasn't able to buy a ticket.....my coworker's friend made prop designs for Star Wars... that's my only hope for ever going now (been trying for years just to attend). Are you going to hold a booth there selling artwork? Maybe I'll ask some friends to buy me stuff from you if so. *__*
Have you seen "Broken Blade"? Its another good mecha anime but think kinda escaflowne time setting-ish. It only has 6 episode but there a hour long. If you haven't seen it yet its a good alternative to watch.
Tell me you haven't missed No Game No life, personally i watched 4 episodes back when it started then i had it on hold until it's last episode aired few weeks ago, then i marathoned it, and damn it, it's one of the most creative anime out there ... no gamer or anime fan should miss it.
I know a lot of people get that impression and drop it early on, but it's more than worth it to ignore all the "lolicon" vibe and watch it to the end (the lolicon stuff is satire most of the time and played for laughs) .. you won't regret it, and once you hit episode 6 you will fully understand how truly amazing the show is.
Yea I agree its very good, I heard about it a while ago and was waiting for it to show on netflix. I didnt realize it was the 3D animation and was kind of worried at first but luckily it was well done and i really enjoyed it. Now Im waiting for season 2
hahaha I just watched the whole series this after noon. I saw it on netflix advertised and gave it a chance. Now I was expecting reeeeaally bad quality animation and a terrible story line. What I saw instead was a pretty damn good show. I'm not a fan of 3D animation but the story and characters kept me going on this and I liked it ...a lot.
