it's not just drawings. I've been asked a lot to use one of my character models for their game... and no compensation whatsoever. just a "name in credits".
and i completely agree with you. it feels like no one respects the time it takes to make the piece.

I just saw that yesterday. Very good point. The only art I give away for free is for immediate family as gifts. People don't seem to realize just how much work goes into art. Thanks for bringing this up.

Rude! Artists don't owe people anything, and it's pretty disheartening to know there are so many freeloaders out there who think otherwise.

Thank you so much for your post and your video. It really helped me see that my time and artwork is valuable and that I should be a little more cautious to this new disease.
Thank you. :)

Ugh, I hate people that expect any kind of 'art' that is free. Whether its web design, paintings, music, etc.

"You do this kind of stuff for fun, why should I have to pay you for it."
I've actually had a person tell me that. >.<

I make my art for myself for fun. Making art for other people isn't 'fun' it's 'work.' And it ain't crazy to expect to be payed for your work, time, and effort. If it were such a 'cheap/simple' thing to do, they could do it themselves. But no, it requires skill and skills need to be payed for.

*wanders off to watch the vid.*

Once one gives in and does it for free- the disaster will only continue for others u_u)
If they're gonna be like that, I'd just yell at em to do it themselves instead of wasting artists time, effort, and resources. Its not even that expensive to request service. A classmate of mine did a parody campaign for the student election of Obama's poster for $50- where he was soon hired for a lot of posters work.

I hope younger people realize this... There is too much disrespect to the art world lately.

Also, free art is destined to be half-assed or maybe never even finished, because the artist will always have something more important to do. It can drag down the whole project, and it's not the artist's fault.

Pretty much- that's why Contracts are highly favored.
Neither side can back down or its game over.

Yeah, this isn't really a new thing, unfortunately... There's a lot of people who really don't understand the work that goes into art and expect it to be no big deal to pay the artist later "if" the project is successful. It honestly blows my mind that they think it's acceptable to ask for unpaid work from anyone.

Modern business is profit worship. To these people, you are either a slut or a whore, a tool, a mere object. They think they can own your soul for as much as you argee to give "it" away for.

These people are the pejorative trader stereotype, who ruthlessly use you, wipe their miniscule cock in your face and throw you away, and even demand that you feel ashamed for not being an even bigger slave to them.

Every boss I had so far was thinking more or less along this same logic, I can't even decide if it was at least semi-conscious or purely from their feeble gut.

I sadly made the mistake of making several images for a group I was paying to be with and when we parted ways, they refused to stop using the images nor give me credit for making them when I requested... I don't have the money to get a lawyer, so I have to grit my teeth as I watch them make a profit on what I created. *sigh*

Yeah, it frustrates me to no end, but I can not do anything about it. I tried talking to them, but they refuse, saying they own it and don't have to give me credit. It hurts, but I learned my lesson.
