Nvidia card users important

hdmi users

People i just discovered why i couldnt get true blacks on my cintiqs, or other monitors, blaming led technology. But envidia was the problem at fault.

Color value are from 0 to 255, i mean from black to white, thats good for photoedition, but real bad for games.

Nvidia cards were built for been in video games, so they dont use those values, they use from 16- 235, so you are skipping the most crucial colors for coloring, but for editing it will SUCK.

So i had found a great web page, with a little software for pc users, that you run it and restart and you get solid blacks, this had made my callibration so easy, it was the graphic card the problem.

Just download the program, unzip it, execute it, and choose from 1 to 255 values, restart and its done.

If you dont like it you can revert it by clicking again the other option.

Corel painter works incredible with those values. You notice this more if you have your monitor connected in hdmi mode.

i dont use that one, its because you have to change the nib of the brush its in general, instead of using circular change it to computer one, and then the option will be enabled.

It's worth pointing out that not all displays support full range, and if that's the case then full range will only make things look bad. It's also worth pointing out that this is only necessary for people using hdmi output, seeing as there's an option for it in the control panel, covering dvi output.

Ati Radeon uses the Catalyst software for color calibration, it΄s the best software in the market and ATI cards are the best ones for design and graphics when you have to print them (and work great on videogames, too).

I think so, I ran the program but I am not noticing a big difference in colors. My laptop is always a bit more green than my other computers

It's tough to say for certain but it definitely looks like I have more color range. I opened up painter and photoshop and it doesn't look like I have as much solid black in the triangle/square anymore. If anything, it's an improvement. Thanks!

sometimes windows uses another color profiles, you have to change on settings, there, its complicated in advanced settings, ive always remove the defaults.

I used to mess around with the color profiles until I upgraded to windows 7 and just started using the default ones. They were actually more accurate than the cintiq specific ones for me. Monitor and color calibration is a pain in the ass but I think I'm in a good place now.

yeah i have the same too, but i recommend you this go to advanced then advanced again, and the ones that says default perceptual as an example, change it to perceptual, then continue changing the rest, somehow works better, even if its the same.

can you tell me if i can somehow adjust colours on the led monitor with this program so i can get real life clours on my screen? when i see my own artworks on different devices, the colours seem to me very odd - very light, or very yellow, sometimes very very bright and desaturated a bit..

well depends on your mobitor, you should try to mimic the colors of a good monitor, lets say an ipad, or a printed work.

I want to point out in reality there is no such thing as a "true black". If you think it is, it's just a dark shade of another color.

i just want to point out too, that the only way to see a true black in this wolrd its to be blind, no light.

well, there IS complete absence of light, in which case you just dont see anything at all. ;)

in a visible scene, however, you are quite right. with every lit surface becoming a (weak) light source itself, bouncing light back into shadow areas, finding a spot completely devoid of light would be pretty academic. in the context of art, id still group this "there is no black" thing among the useless dogmas, though. for the very simple reason that what exists in reality has little bearing on art (and one could make a very valid argument that if something appears truly black, it is black. "objective" standards always have that big justification issue. its a methodological and epistemological problem). you cant observe art into a picture. you have to make a picture into art by your decisions. and these can very well and validly include using black.
