Spyder pro 4 review

For many years i had seen this device. Read reviews, looked form far, but my cintiq 21ux gave me almost accurate colors, so for e was a waste of money. So ive skip it. I was talking about the old one spyder pro 2 or 3. I think it was 2.

Now, after i bought the cintiq 22hd, with more brightness and more contrasti got color blinded. Having too much can be bad, new monitors they have the brightness so wayyyy up, that you can almost lit a room.

Noticed that the default 6500k in rgb was a bit different from my old cintiq, i saw the flesh tones and said, ummmmmm. Must be a wrong color profile. Then some friends of mine complained my colors looked really dark, i mean almost black. So i had to tone down the brightness on my monitor.

Do some test, and noticed that looks good on my cintiq, but bad on my second screen, a dell monitor. Also in the ipad looked dark and in my cellphone looked sooo bright?

So i was shooting in the dark.

Then the spyder 4pro cath my attention, this time has 7 sensors for different tones of blues, and even a light room sensor, to callibrate the light of the monitor with the room. Again why should i spend 140 dollars, maybe it wont work.

So ive skip it, until a friend with same cintiq model brought it, and say it was awesome.

So it was decided i bought it.

From this webpage www.bhphotovideo.com/

That has to be the most awesome webpage i had found for international shipment.

I mean its insane, i bought it on tuesday and arrived on friday. I wasss like WWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWW you have a new client here. I had to pay international tax but was awesome, because ordering from other countries can take months, and took less than 3 days, and was the cheapest from all options the one i choosen.

So i followed the instructions. Was really easy, took me a while to notice i had to press continue, hhahaha i was waiting like almost an hour. hahhahahahahhahah

But then after ten minutes of calibration my heart was beating fast, did it was a success?, How wrong i had my monitor calibrated? Will it calibrate a second screen? Will i have trouble like other people that gave it a one star?

Then i clicked next. Then i got dissapointed that didnt changed the tones like from night to day, but after my second blink of my eyes, like they refreshed the image, i was like WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW what the hell?

The flesh tones looked so real from photos, so i looked my reference images and photos looked amazing, i can even notice tiny details, that couldnt see on the image before. By default the new cintiq 22hd in 6500k mode, the flesh tones looked like yelloew with blues, now they look warm and real.

I was surprised that the spyderpro also detected the dell, and i was able to calibrate both screens, the dell has more contrast becaus eits a better monitor. But now they look almost the same. I was like hell yeahhhhh.

I noticed i could calibrate my ipad too, so i downloaded the program and a nother HEEELLLLL YEEEAHHH.

I dont regret a single penny spend on this one, my lazyness and indesition made me choose the wrong colors all this time, hope  that now the colors look more wamr,at least to my eyes.

I highly recommend it.

Thank you for the review! I have been strugling whether to buy a calibration tool or not, will they work or not. I had been using an old monitor at my old job to check the colors of my pictures, but know that I am not working there anymore I don't have that opportunity. It is a bit hard to find the colors when every display you have shows a different color.. I was surprised you could calibrate your iPad. I wonder does that mean I can calibrate my Android phone too? I will check this later.

I will invest into one this year, will solve many problems I believe.

The screen it may look a bit yellow or warm, but thats the way i like it, usually the colors looked so alien on my screen, like weird greens on skin, so im happy with the result, other people may think the change its not good, but i love warm colors, photos of models her skin looks great.

Hahaha!  I got my Cintiq22 and Spyder4 last April from B&H too!  I figured since I'm spending over 2k with a drawing monitor (damn, never cheap for us artist, eh?!) might as well get a calibrator to get the right, if not perfect, color.  I was surprised that they have NO FREAKING TAX which saved me over $300. So of course I used that extra money for rushed delivery shipping.

It felt like I was a little girl getting excited over her first ever Barbie doll when my orders arrived - tears rolled down my eyes and was probably dancing like a little girl too!

And oh goodness gracious!!! The calibrating thing was amazing, too dazzling for my eyes!  Printing became less expensive. And all became right in my world again. Since then, I trust B&H to get all my electronic supplies. It's a great place to buy especially expensive equipments.

btw... I also bought a screen protector from Strong Engineering - I read in one of your post as recommendation.  After a few months though, I took mine off the Cintiq. It just didn't feel right whenever I draw - too reflective and the colors looked a bit grey with it.  But what I started doing everyday before drawing (to lessen the risk of scratches) is to always make sure that my screen is clean and that my pen doesn't get sharp on any edge. I'm loving the drawing experience more without the protector, and besides, I'm always careful when it comes to my electronics anyway.

trust me on this, it will scratch, did all the steps, got scrtaches in two months, some of them almost unnotizable, there is always a time when the nib of the pen takes a knife form, then the damage its done. So i preffer a  plastic on top, so in that way i can be mean with the cintiq and do hard and fast strokes. Even if im the kind of guy that doesnt use too much pressure, because i work iwth really soft pencils. Last driver of december improved my cintiq performance, past drivers are filled with bugs. Get the new one.

And yeah spyder pro its awesome, finally my cintiq 22hd looks like my old citiq 21ux by default.

hahaha.  I think I'll take that chance without it. I just like it better :)

But really thank you for sharing the knowledge about the screen protector. It's a very nice thing to have either way.

And also thanks for mentioning the driver!  I mean, WOW! I never knew they had updates like that. Just had the latest driver installed - I'll try them later to see the improvement/s.
